Shoppers Drug Mart acquires cannabis license from Health Canada

Share

Shoppers Drug Mart has recently obtained its license under the Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR).

This means that the company’s partnerships with licensed marijuana producers like Aphria Inc., Aurora, and Tilray formed earlier this year will be honoured.

According to current ACMPR regulations, patients with a prescription can order their cannabis online or over the phone and receive it via home delivery. Shoppers Drug Mart stores will not have cannabis onsite.

Earlier this year, the company announced a partnership with Manulife Financial whereby cannabis prescriptions will be covered for patients under participating Group Benefits plans and individual health insurance plans in Canada.

“Medical marijuana can be complex. Most medically-authorized patients need help finding the right solution for their condition,” said Donna Carbell, Senior Vice President, Group Benefits.

“Manulife’s medical marijuana program will ensure people have appropriate advice, make informed decisions and receive the support they need to choose the appropriate strain for their condition.”

More information on Shoppers Drug Mart’s plans will be made available in the next few weeks.
