Special air quality statement issued for southern Vancouver Island

Share

After a week or so of clear skies, Victoria may be swapping blue for grey again.

B.C.’s environment ministry has issued a ‘Special air quality statement‘ for Vancouver Island.

With about 416 wildfires still burning across the province, the B.C. government has warned Vancouver Island, and much of the mainland, about poor air quality tonight and tomorrow.

The following areas are affected:

  • Victoria
  • Saanich
  • Westshore

A reminder that infants, children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing conditions may want to take extra precautions to limit their exposure to smoke.

Another advisory will be issued by the government tomorrow as conditions change.

A wetter, cooler and breezier pattern towards the end of the work week is expected to improve air quality conditions across the province.

Today’s bulletin can be found here.
