Victoria police have arrested a man who was reportedly involved in a violent carjacking and collisions in the downtown area.

Police say the series of incidents that led to the arrest occurred at about 6:45 a.m. on Friday morning at the intersection of Fort Street and Foul Bay Road.

According to witnesses, the suspect leapt into the box area of a pick-up truck and then proceeded to break the rear window of the vehicle.

He threatened the driver, who stopped the vehicle and fled on foot. The suspect then got in the vehicle and drove away from the scene.

It doesn’t stop there…

While driving, he crashed the truck into another vehicle that had swerved to try and avoid it. Apparently unfazed by the collision, he continued to drive against the flow of traffic on Johnson Street, prompting many other vehicles to move away from his path.

Finally, the truck came to a halt at in the 1100 block of Johnson Street, where the suspect tried to flee the scene.

However, Victoria police were able to locate and arrest him a short distance from where he had left the truck.

Everyone involved in the incident has been cleared medically at the scene.

Officers are now searching for more witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to call the VicPD non-emergency line at (250) 995-7654. To report what you know anonymously, contact Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
