Victoria releasing sketches and concepts to revitalize Centennial Square

Since its construction in the 1960s, Centennial Square has offered a gathering spot for Victorians to relax, meet with friends, and enjoy local artists.

Last month, the city was asking the public for feedback on how it can revitalize the square for future generations and now they’re releasing preliminary sketches and concepts for an improved Centennial Square.

On Wednesday, September 12th, you can drop by Victoria City Hall’s Antechamber to see these design concepts and talk with the design team and workers.

Everything will be made available online after the open house and will be accessible from their website for those who can’t make it but are still interested in what’s brewing.

Centennial Square was identified as a priority for improvement during the development of the Downtown Public Realm Plan. Strategies for sprucing up the square include:

• increasing ground-level commercial and cafe/restaurant space in the area,
• facilitating temporary installations such as cafe kiosks or food trucks,
• improving the square’s connections with Douglas Street,
• incorporating play elements to make the space welcoming for children and families, and
• introducing new surface material to complement the existing heritage brick.
