7 things to do in and around Victoria this weekend, October 13-14th

It’s a perfect fall weekend, and there’s no shortage of awesome events and activities taking place.

Victoria Royals two-game weekend set

The Victoria Royals are returning home after defeating the Kelowna Rockets 4-3 last Friday night, and a 2-1 victory over the Kamloops Blazers the next day, to extend their winning streak to six games.

  • Game 1: vs. Vancouver Giants
    • When: Saturday, October 13th; 7:05 pm puck drop.

Monsters Haunted House

  • When: October 12th to 31st
    • Sunday thru Thursday| 6:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
    • Fridays, Saturdays, and Halloween| 6:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.
  • Where: 203 Dallas Road, Pier A, Ogden Point

Self-guided Ghost Walking Tour

  • What: Round up a squad, follow the map, and read the stories of some of Victoria’s most haunted downtown locations. A great way to get spooky with some room for spontaneity!
  • Where: Wherever you’d like to start!
  • When: Whenever you’d like to get going!

“Festival of Fear” Galey Farms

  • What: Galey Farm’s signature event features a Haunted House for kids, the much scarier 6000 square foot Carnevil Haunted House for adults, a haunted corn maze, Crazy Train and Seance. The Cornfield of Horror is fully animated and features The Haunted Mansion, Pirates Island, The Addams Graveyard and many more fabulous displays. Fun for all ages during the day, but gets much spookier after 6 pm.
  • Where: Galey Farms, 4150 Blenkinsop Rd
  • When: Runs nightly October 12th & 13th,18th to 21st and 25th through to Halloween night. 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Pendray’s Corn Maze 

Vancouver Island’s biggest corn maze features 14-acres of corn and 10 acres of maze trails – Pendray Farms is the place to be! The average time to get through the maze is 2 hours, although some have made it in 45 minutes.  The 2018 corn maze has a small maze, a walking trail, and a large maze. The small maze (~2 km) can be completed in 30 minutes to an hour. The “Walking Trail” (~1.1 km) goes around the maze, but is not connected to the maze. These sections are ideal for children and grown ups who prefer a shorter exploration of the corn maze.

Shock Therapy: Short Canadian Horror

Join your friends from CineVic for the debut of a brand-new horror film event, Shock Therapy! Shock Therapy: Short Canadian Horror Films is the upcoming short Canadian horror event presented by CineVic Society of Independent Filmmakers. In its premiere year, Shock Therapy will be illuminating the best of Canadian short horror films, with a focus on the creative, satirical, and psychological.

  • When: Saturday, 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Public Tours at Government House

Government House is open to the public for guided tours the first Saturday of every month. Learn more about the role of the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, the history of Government House and get a closer look at the ceremonial home of all British Columbians. Tours are free!

  • When: Tours start at 9:30 am and 11:00 am and are one hour in length.
