The body of Ben Kilmer who went missing earlier this year has been found in a remote area of Duncan.

In a statement, the family said the 41-year-old Cowichan Valley father of two young children was found on Oct. 17.

The North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP said the remains were located by a hiker in an area well outside of the original search area.

Ben was initially reported missing last May. His work van was found running along Cowichan Lake Road near Menzies Creek in the Cowichan River area.

His cause of death is not suspicious.

A GoFundeMe campaign has been started in order to establish an education fund for his kids.

The family thanked the community and the RCMP for the support they received during the 5 month long search.

They have released the following statement:

The family is asking for privacy and plans to hold a private memorial.
