The municipality of Colwood has elected Rob Martin as its mayor. Martin defeated his competition, Carol Hamilton, by 654 votes, with a total of 2,348 for Martin and 1,694 for Hamilton.

Martin plans to focus on the municipality’s economic development, natural environment, transportation, and sense of community.

Martin has served as a Colwood councillor for the past seven years. He was also the Board Chair of the Greater Victoria Public Library since 2016, and from 2012 – 2016 he was the Board Chair of Westshore Parks & Recreation.

“[We must] build a balanced Municipal economy where business plays a more significant role. Presently, 93% of Colwood’s net taxable assessed value comes from Colwood homeowners. To lower the tax burden on residents, we must grow our business community,” said Martin on his campaign website.

The previous mayor, Carol Hamilton, served for two terms, being elected in 2011 and re-elected in 2014. Before that, she served as a Colwood councillor in 2005.
