A strong magnitude 6.6 earthquake has struck just off the west coast of Vancouver Island late Sunday evening.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the quake struck at 10:39 pm and had a shallow epicenter of 10 km located about 218 km southwest of Port Hardy.
There is no threat of a tsunami based on the data the USGS has gathered, therefore a tsunami warning has not been issued.
