RCMP believe missing 28-year-old Sidney man is hiding from police

Sidney/North Saanich RCMP are continuing their search for missing 28-year-old Howard Baker.

A witness who stepped forward during the investigation believes that Baker may be hiding because he thinks Sidney RCMP will arrest him.

“Why he would believe that, I don’t know,” says Cpl. Christopher Manseau of Sidney RCMP. “There are no warrants for his arrest.”

According to Manseau, people who are called in missing often presume they are in trouble, even when that is not the case.

“What we’re hoping is that he’s hiding from us at a family or friends’ house.”

As of 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Peninsula Emergency Measures Organization Search and Rescue (PEMO SAR) have partnered with Sidney/North Saanich RCMP to commence an outdoor search on the Tsartlip First Nation for Baker.

Background

28-year-old Howard Baker was last seen on Sunday, October 28th in Sidney.

Baker is described as a First Nations male, standing 5’10” tall, weighing 150 lbs, and has brown hair and brown eyes.

If you see Howard or have any information on his whereabouts, please contact the Sidney RCMP’s non-emergency line at 250-656-3931 and mention that this is in regards to Baker being missing, or call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
