Victoria resident to spend thousands this week to “influence local elections”

Share

Victoria resident and local taxpayer advocate Aaron Gunn launched an aggressive new ad campaign for the upcoming municipal elections.

The ad campaign, which began today, is pro-Richard Atwell and anti-Lisa Helps, and advocates for the United for Saanich team to replace the current Saanich council.

“Frankly, I’m fed up with Victoria being run like a 9th grade civics project,” said Gunn in a release. “Mayor Helps has been a complete disaster for the city’s residents. She’s hiked taxes, ignored constituents and wasted millions of dollars on an over-budget bike lane network that’s as confusing as it impractical.”

The ads are being released on Facebook, and will run until election day. Gunn plans on spending the maximum amount a third party is allowed to on the ad campaigns for both municipalities.

“Saanich deserves a council that works,” said Gunn. “I strongly believe Mayor Richard Atwell and his United for Saanich team are the right people for the job.”

Aaron Gunn is a taxpayer advocate, online personality, and spokesperson for B.C. Proud. His political videos have accumulated over 19 million views.

Former Victoria NDP MP Endorses Mayor Lisa Helps

Former Victoria NDP MP Denise Savoie, who served as the federal Member of Parliament for Victoria from 2006 until 2012, has endorsed Mayor Lisa Helps for re-election.

“As Victoria’s Member of Parliament for six years, I know how challenging it can be to stand up for what you believe in,” says Savoie. “I admire Lisa’s unwavering focus on constructive and positive action in the face of anger and hate. Lisa Helps is the progressive mayor that we need in Victoria right now.”

Before becoming the federal Member of Parliament for Victoria, Savoie served as a Victoria city councillor and Capital Regional District director from 1999 to 2005. During her time with the CRD, she spearheaded the development of the Galloping Goose Trail.

Savoie was also the first woman to hold the federal riding in Victoria.

“I’m honoured by Denise’s support,” says Helps. “When I first ran for office for a seat on council, Denise Savoie was a huge role model of mine, and she still is today. This campaign has not been easy – to say the least. It’s formidable women like Denise that inspire me to keep going, to stick to my beliefs, and not to give up.”

Municipal elections across Vancouver Island will be held on Saturday, October 20th.

Saanich Deserves a Council that Works

For four years, Saanich has had a do-nothing, obstructionist council that have acted as a drag on the city’s prospects. That's why I'm happy to give my endorsement to Mayor Richard Atwell and his United for Saanich team. I believe they will be the best choice to keep taxes low, cut government waste and get things done.
