Emmet Cohen Trio

Multifaceted American jazz pianist-composer Emmet Cohen is one of the most highly pivotal figures in music today, presenting jazz lectures through the YoungArts Foundation and Lincoln Center’s “Jazz for Young People” program. He has appeared in the Monterey, Newport, North Sea, Bern, and Edinburgh jazz festivals. A vibrant solo and trio performer, Cohen was a finalist in the 2011 Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition and the prestigious American Pianists Association’s Cole Porter Fellowship in 2011 and 2015. Cohen is also a member of Christian McBride’s trio “Tip City,” the “Herlin Riley Quartet,” and the “Ali Jackson Trio,” and serves as pianist and music director for jazz vocalist and television personality Lea DeLaria (Orange is the New Black).

Late Night Skate 

Winter is coming which means it’s time to practice our skating! We will meet downtown at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.  Cost of admission is $5.80. Rentals cost $3.80

  • Where: Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre – 1925 Blanshard Street

Festival of Trees 

The 27th Annual Festival of Trees at the Bay Centre. See the Bay Centre transformed into a lush forest of hand-decorated trees. Share in the spirit by voting for your favourite, with all proceeds supporting the most urgent health care needs of kids in BC.

Trees will be on display at the Bay Centre starting November 15, 2018, through January 7, 2019.

US “Pop up” Consulate in Victoria 

The United States Consulate General in Vancouver will host a traveling “Pop-Up Consulate” for American Citizens Services in Victoria today.

Consulate staff at the venue will accept passport, Consular Report of Birth Abroad applications and provide notarial services. American citizens can obtain these services on Thursday, November 15 at the Central Branch of the Greater Victoria Public Library (735 Broughton St, Victoria).

  • When: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Where: 735 Broughton Street

Spirit of Drumming – UVic community drum circle

Every Thursday at the UVic Interfaith Chapel –  drum out your many struggles and joys with students and friends. “We drum, ring, sing, dance and let go of all our concerns and open to joy.” No experience necessary! The drums and percussion instruments available.
