Victoria police are appealing to the public for help in locating the driver who struck and killed a dog and narrowly missed a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk.

Just after 5:15 p.m. on Friday, November 9th, a man was crossing the crosswalk at the intersection of Dallas Road and Menzies Street with his two small dogs.

An eastbound vehicle stopped for him but as he crossed the road, a westbound vehicle failed to stop at the crosswalk, narrowly missing the man. However, the vehicle struck one of the dogs, killing him instantly.

The pedestrian yelled at the passing vehicle, which slowed but did not stop. The driver continued westbound toward the cruise ship terminal.

The pedestrian and the other dog were not injured.

The vehicle is described as a white, 16-foot shuttle bus-style vehicle with a light bar on the roof instead of individual lights. The vehicle also has a loud squeaking wheel.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Victoria police at 250-995-7654 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
