Come get your fresh herring!
For the 8th year in a row the Finest at Sea and ‘Fishermen Helping Kids with Cancer’ are hosting a fundraiser for kids battling cancer.
But this isn’t just any fundraiser, it’s a fresh herring sale, and it’s put together purely by the passion of volunteers who know that 100% of the proceeds go directly to kids with cancer.
Last year’s sale raised $106,598!
The annual fundraiser was inspired by the 17-year-old daughter of a commercial BC fisherman who was battling cancer. A fellow fisherman was moved by her fighting spirit and had the idea that the BC commercial fishing industry could hold a fresh herring sale to help all kids with cancer.
Sadly, the fisherman’s daughter succumbed to cancer just days before the inaugural herring sale in 2011. In honour of her and the children still battling cancer today, the fundraiser endures.

Finest at Sea is a local commercial fishing company that’s been operating since 1977. They sell 100% wild caught sustainable seafood from hook to table, and processes all of their catches in facility right here in James Bay.
