36-year-old Parksville mother still missing one year later

In a news release issued Monday, Oceanside RCMP said that they were still “desperate for clues” in a Parksville mother missing persons case.

Carmel Gilmour, 36, was reported missing in mid-November, 2017. She was last seen near Little Mountain in Parksville, and was seen leaving the area alone in her brown 2002 Chevy Venture.

The day after her disappearance, Carmel’s vehicle was spotted along the waterfront of Qualicum Beach, and a week later the car was recovered by police from that area.

Over the past year, police say that they have followed up on a number of tips and leads, but have learned little in their investigation.

“I feel that someone in the Oceanside Community knows what happened to Carmel and I encourage them to come forward and speak to police,” said Sergeant Stephen Rose of the Oceanside RCMP in the same release.

“Carmel has left behind children that she loved and this is completely out of character for her.”

Carmel is described as a Caucasian woman who was 36-years-old at the time of her disappearance. She stands 5’ 6” tall and weighs roughly 150 pounds. She has brown hair, hazel eyes, and medium build.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Oceanside RCMP detachment at 250-248-6111, and are asked to speak to Constable Nardi. For those that wish to remain anonymous, they can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
