Travellers between Vancouver Island and Vancouver should prepare for a possible change of plans today.
Windy conditions and an Environment Canada weather alert have caused disruptions to BC Ferries’ sailing schedule.
Sailings between Victoria to Vancouver, Nanaimo to Vancouver, and Comox Valley to Powell River have all been cancelled until 2 p.m. today.
With each cancellation service notice, BC Ferries is quick to remind travellers that the safety of passengers and crew is the primary consideration of these decisions.
“We don’t take the decision to cancel sailings lightly, as we know customers rely on us to get to their destinations. We will resume service as soon as it is safe to do so.”
“We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience experienced as a result of this cancellation.”

Windy and adverse weather conditions have been hitting the island and impacting sailors for days now.
On Monday evening, a BC Ferries crew rescued people from a boat that had radioed for help after taking on water.
