A two-car collision on Sunday afternoon left one man dead and sent two others in hospital.

Nanaimo RCMP are investigating the two vehicle which claimed the life of a 59-year-old male.

The collision occured on Cedar Road, roughly one kilometre away from the the Cedar Road bypass near Highway One.

Police say that the deceased male was driving a newer model Chevrolet pick up truck and travelling west bound along Cedar Road when his vehicle collided head-on with another truck that was heading east bound.

The deceased driver was pronounced dead at the scene by an attending BC Coroners Service agent, and his two passengers were airlifted to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, the 22-year-old male driver of the Ford pick up and his adult female passenger both sustained minor injuries that did not require hospitalization.

Police say that they do not believe that alcohol or speed were contributing factors to the accident. However, weather and road conditions have not been ruled out. Both vehicles are also scheduled to be mechanically inspected.

The investigation is ongoing.
