U by Kotex Sleek regular absorbency tampons have been recalled by parent company Kimberly-Clark after consumers reported illnesses and injuries while using the product.

According to a press release, Kimberly-Clark stated that the voluntary Canada and U.S.-wide recall was issued due to “a quality-related defect that could impact the performance” of these particular products.

The company has received numerous reports of the tampons unravelling or coming apart during removal, causing consumers to seek medical attention to remove the pieces left inside their body.

They have also gotten complaints from people experiencing infections, vaginal irritation, localized vaginal injury, and other symptoms after using the product.

The recall is issued for specific lots of U by Kotex Sleek Tampons, Regular Absorbency that were manufactured between October 7th, 2016 and October 16th, 2018, and distributed between October 17th, 2016 and October 23rd, 2018.

Retailers have been notified of the recall and been advised to remove the products from shelves and post a notification in store.
