Last week, a severe windstorm battered BC, leaving hundreds of thousands without power, and toppling a much beloved Saanichton Gary Oak tree.
Exactly one week later, approximately 5653 people on Vancouver Island are still without electricity. However, BC Hydro is working around the clock and expecting all island communities to have power by tonight.
After the windstorm, Victorians began sharing images on our social media channels of the famous Garry Oak tree located on Mt. Newton Cross Road, on the Longview Farm field near the Prairie Inn Pub. Here are 20 of our favourite.
Recently, a video from a Nest Cam on a nearby property was shared, capturing the moment the iconic tree collapsed.
