Our Place hosting its annual Christmas meal for over 1,000 vulnerable people

One of Victoria’s most generous holiday traditions is returning, as Our Place preps mounds of food for their annual Christmas meal.

This year, over 1000 vulnerable people are expected to share a holiday feast at Our Place on Tuesday, with local politicians, community leaders, and volunteers all helping to make the evening happen.

“For many of the people who frequent Our Place, whether they’re homeless, working poor, or seniors living below the poverty line, the Our Place turkey feast is the closest they come to having the kind of Christmas dinner most of us take for granted,” said the community centre in a release.

With the support of donors during the winter season, Our Place will serving up about 450 kg of turkey, 225 kg of potatoes, 110 kg of stuffing, 100 kg of vegetables, 115 litres of gravy, 25 kg of cranberry sauce, 125 pies, and over 1,500 cups of coffee.

That’s over 2000 pounds of food!

“For people living in poverty, we’re often the closest family they have,” said Don Evans, executive director of Our Place in the same release.

“We want everyone to know they are loved and cared for.”
