Thousands of people on Vancouver Island are without electricity today, as recent wind storms have affected a variety of communities.
According to BC Hydro, 10,108 people across the island are currently without power, and approximately 21,404 are affected around the province.
The most heavily affected community is Tofino, where a transmission circuit failure has knocked out the electricity for 2228 people.

Meanwhile, On Hornby Island an Denman Island, an estimated 1729 residents have lost power. BC Hydro says the specific cause is still under investigation.

Ucluelet is the third most affected area, where another transmission circuit failure has left 1650 people without power.

Other communities on the island that are experiencing power outages include: Nanaimo, Lake Cowichan, Bamfield, Port Alberni, Port Hardy, and more.
BC Hydro workers have their hands full on Vancouver Island, as well as on the mainland. Reports on when communities can expect their electricity to return are varied, but some could see the lights back on as earlier as 12:00 p.m. noon today.
