RCMP warn of dangerous synthetic drug found in Comox Valley

Share

Comox Valley RCMP are warning community members about a synthetic drug that was discovered as a result of a drug trafficking investigation in October.

Officers recovered a small amount of powder from a residence in Courtenay and, after being examined by a Health Canada Laboratory, was determined to contain fentanyl, 5F-ADB (synthetic cannabinoid), caffeine and acetaminophen.

“We are very concerned about the confirmation of this synthetic cannabinoid and fentanyl in our community,” said Cst. Monika Terragni, Media Relations Officer of Comox Valley RCMP.

“This was a potent and potentially lethally combination of drugs.”

According to Terragni, these substances are linked to psychotic episodes and overdoses, and are presented to the user in such a way that they might have been unaware of what they were consuming.

One individual, Justin Chester, was arrested during the course of the investigation and was charged with obstructing police, possession of a scheduled substance, and failure to comply with his probation.

He is currently still in police custody.
