This popular downtown Victoria breakfast eatery is officially closing Jan 1st

One of Victoria’s favourite breakfast spots is officially closing its doors this new year.

Back in September, the owner of Floyd’s Diner announced that the delicious breakfast joint would likely be closing its doors in January, and its seems the worst has come to pass.

Rising lease prices and a persistent city-wide restaurant labour shortage had been putting pressure on the original Floyd’s Diner location, which has been on the corner of Yates and Quadra since 2004.

“Our lease is up in January and we are not sure we can renew,” said owner Petr Prusa earlier this year.

“Everything has gone up. Property values have gone up, property taxes are up, and that means rent goes up. There’s only so much you can charge for an egg.”

While the flagship Floyd’s Diner is sadly closing, the restaurant still has two other locations. A bright pink James Bay eatery, and one in Langford. Besides the two diners, Floyd’s also has one mobile food truck.
