In what has to be one of the most unexpected business crossovers in history, 7-Eleven Canada has teamed up with Ghostbusters, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and mobile game developer FourThirtyThree Inc. to create an unforgettable AR (augmented reality) videogame.

The game, Ghostbusters World, has players walk through the real world finding ghosts to bust on their phone in an AR system that resembles Pokemon Go.

Within the game, all 7-Elevens across Canada double as “Dimensional Doors”. Inside, players can pick up traps, weapons and other resources that will help them take down ghosts in the game. The Dimensional Doors will also have an increased spawn rate for 3 of the series’ most popular ghosts, the Goast, Ghost Buffalo, and Sandman.

“As the largest name in convenience retail, 7-Eleven is always looking for innovative ways to provide our customers with the best in-store experiences,” said Doug Rosencrans, VP and General Manager of 7-Eleven Canada in an announcement.

“For today’s consumer, this means bridging the gap between mobile devices and physical retail locations.”

Ghostbusters World is now available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play, and Dimensional Doors can be accessed from all 630 7-Eleven locations across Canada.
