Saanich police dog, Hitch, helped officers track down a dangerous driver that had sped through Saanich before running off the road into a park in Oak Bay, and abandoning his vehicle.
On early Wednesday morning, an ambulance medic in Saanich saw and attempted to stop a dangerous driver. However, the driver took off, prompting a search for the vehicle by Saanich and Oak Bay police.
The vehicle was eventually found abandoned on the grass of Carnarvon Park in Oak Bay, where police say the driver had fled on foot. That’s when Hitch was called in.

Police say that Hitch followed the man’s trail straight to his front door.
“The Police dog attended and tracked the driver to his residence, where he was arrested,” Oak Bay’s Deputy Chief Ray Bernoties told Victoria Buzz.
“We will be recommending charges of dangerous driving and potentially mischief against the 41 year old Oak Bay male,” he added.
