Victoria ranked one of the friendliest places in Canada in 2018

Canada is globally known as a welcoming country, and according to booking.com, some communities stand out as being even friendlier than all the rest.

Victoria is one of these communities, according to customers that have stayed in accomodations in the city.

Booking recognized the highest rated 759,845 properties across 219 countries, and 2,200 of them can be found in Canada.

The other ‘most welcoming’ communities in Canada, in no particular order, are:

  • Calgary
  • Kelowna
  • Whistler
  • Vancouver
  • Halifax
  • Niagara on the Lake
  • Ottawa
  • Quebec City
  • Mont-Tremblant

When it comes to tourists visiting Canada, Booking says that visitors felt most welcome in “alternative” properties like B&B’s rather than hotels.

Meanwhile, Canadians seeing other parts of the world tend to prefer homes, apartments, or “unique and quirky” accommodations.

Booking found that 26% of Canadians prefer “unique and quirky” places to stay, and that 29% would like to try an accomodation type that they’ve never experienced before in 2019.

“No matter the type, size or location of the property, what we see from our customers is that they value a human connection when they travel, whether it’s some extra attention to detail or a truly individualized approach to service,” said Nuno Guerreiro, REgional Manager of Canada at Booking.com

In order to be eligible for one of these awards, properties had to have an average review score of 8/10 or higher, based on at least 5 reviews or more in 2018. Only customers that stayed at the accommodation could leave a review.
