Someone who purchased a winning lottery ticket in Victoria is probably kicking themselves today (if they found their ticket), as the chance to claim their $1 million prize ended yesterday.
The winner had until 4:30 p.m. on Thursday to cash in their Lotto 6/49 Guaranteed Prize Draw ticket, but the individual(s) never showed, according to the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC).
The $1 million unclaimed prize is expected to go towards future 6/49 lotteries.
“For national games like 6/49, unclaimed money goes back into the pot, essentially for future games,” a BCLC spoksperson told Victoria Buzz.
“If it’s a provincial game like BC/49 that goes back into the government for the benefit of all British Columbians.”
Throughout BCLC’s history, a total of roughly $6.2 million in prizes have gone unclaimed, including yesterday’s missed million.
Out of the $6.2 million, $5 million came from five unclaimed million dollar tickets.
