10 photos of this year’s Chinese New Year Celebration in Victoria

Just before snow began falling in earnest Sunday afternoon, many Victorians made their way down to Chinatown to watch this year’s Chinese Lunar New Year celebration.

The annual tradition has been taking place since the mid-70’s, and this year’s event included close encounters with dragons, Lion Dances, Fan Dancing, martial arts demonstrations, traditional music, and more.

The parade started at noon, temporarily closing down Fisgard Street and other downtown blocks as it marched through the city. The parade wrapped just as snow began to fall.

For those who couldn’t make it or just want to see the festivities from a different angle, here are 10 photos of 2019’s Chinese New Year Celebration.
