A man who appeared to have a handgun tucked into the waistband of his pants was witnessed robbing the Tim Hortons franchise located at 4575 Uplands Road, at the North Town Centre Mall in Nanaimo.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Thursday February 7th, the suspect approached the till at the business and demanded that the employee hand over money from the cash register.

After an undisclosed amount was handed over, he ran out the front door and was last spotted running towards Marks Work WareHouse, located at the intersection of Uplands Dr and Oliver Rd.

Nanaimo RCMP officers and K9 units attended the scene as soon as possible but were unable to track him down.

Description

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5′ 10″ to 6′ tall, with a slim build and wearing a mask which concealed the lower half of his face.

He was also wearing dark clothing which consisted of a black hoodie with tan trim, black gloves, baggy pants and dark skater shoes, with white trim along the base.

Also seen at the scene of the robbery was a black sedan-style vehicle circling through the parking lot several times, just before the suspect entered the café. However, it is unknown whether the vehicle is linked to the robbery at this time.

The photo of the suspect provided above was taken from the CCTV surveillance system and investigators are attempting to locate a clearer image.
