Nearly 30,000 BC Hydro customers on southern Vancouver Island have no power this morning

Thousands of people living in the Greater Victoria region and southern Vancouver Island are experiencing a major power outage on Saturday morning.

While many of these outages are linked directly to the wind storm that hit the South Coast last night, the majority of them are still under investigation by BC Hydro.

According to the website, there are 29,602 customers are currently without power and in the cold, as of the time of publication.

Here’s a list of all the major outages this morning:

    • Oak Bay/Saanich/Victoria

      • 1,979 customers – East of Elliston Ave, South of Arbutus Rd, North of Burdick Ave. Power has been out since 7:23 a.m. and was caused by the wind storm.
    • Victoria:

      • 473 customers – East of West Coast Rd. Power has been out since 9:45 p.m. on Friday night and was caused by a wire going down.
      • 484 customers – North-West of West Coast Rd, South-East of Parkinson Rd. Power has been out since 9:11 p.m. on Friday night and was caused by a wire going down.
      • 68 customers – West of McKenzie Cresc, North-South of Swartz Bay-Fulford Harbour Ferry Rd. Power has been out since 6:15 a.m. and the cause of the outage is under investigation.
    • Saanich:

      • 1,926 customers – North of Hillwood Rd, South of Hunt Rd. Power has been out since 7:17 a.m. and the cause of the outage is under investigation.
      • 885 customers – West of Cordova Bay Rd, South of Walema Ave, East of Boulderwood Dr, North of Borden St. Power has been out since 11:26 p.m. on Friday night and crews are on site as of the time of publication. Power is expected to be restored by 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
      • 440 customers – North of Houlihan Pl, East of Tyndall Ave. Power has been out since 7:14 a.m. and was caused by a wire going down.
      • 259 customers – North of Panorama Dr, West of Valewood Trl, South of Emily Carr Dr, East of Chatterton Way. Power has been out since 6:30 a.m. and the cause of the outage is under investigation.
      • 106 customers – South of Valewood Trl, East of Quadra St, North of Lucas Ave, West of Borden St. Power has been out since 6:22 a.m. and the cause of the outage is under investigation.
      • 103 customers – East of Cameo St, West of Quadra St, North of Martin Rd, South of Keewatin Pl. Power has been out since 6:18 a.m. and the cause of the outage is under investigation.
      • 72 customers – East of Rainbow St, South of Woodhall Dr, West of Saanich Rd, North of Lakeview Ave. Power has been out since 6:20 a.m. and the cause of the outage is under investigation.
    • Esquimalt/Saanich/Victoria/View Royal:

      • 809 customers – West of Obed Ave, South of Grange Rd, East of Hallowell Rd, North of Highrock Ave. Power has been out since 7:51 a.m. and the outage was caused by the wind storm.
    • Highlands/Langford/Saanich/View Royal:

      • 1,880 customers – North of Phelps Ave, South of Willis Point Rd, West of Elk Rd, East of Trans Can Hwy. Power has been out since 8:12 a.m. and the cause of the outage is under investigation.
    • Colwood/Esquimalt/Langford/Saanich/View Royal:

      • 2,809 customers – East of Sybronden Rd, West of Middle Rd. Power has been out since 7:39 a.m. and the cause of the outage is under investigation.
    • Colwood/Highlands/Langford/View Royal:

      • 2,460 customers – North of Phipps Rd, South of Industrial Way, West of Lund Rd, East of Trans Can Hwy. Power has been out since 7:43 a.m. and the cause of the outage is under investigation.
    • Colwood/Langford:

      • 1,343 customers – North of Marlene Dr, East of Henry Eng Pl, West of Island Hwy, South of Hoffman Ave. Power has been out since 7:37 a.m. and the cause of the outage is under investigation.
    • Colwood/Langford/Metchosin:

      • 728 customers – East of Eales Rd, South of Fredrick Rd. Power has been out since 1:48 a.m. and the cause of the outage is under investigation.
    • Sooke:

      • 809 customers – West of Otter Point Rd. Power has been out since 3:36 a.m. and the cause of the outage is under investigation.
      • 686 customers – West of Sooke Rd, East of Sea Lion Way. Power has been out since 6:50 a.m. and the outage was caused by a tree that fell down across Hydro wires.
      • 537 customers – East of West Coast Rd, West of Grant Rd. Power has been out since 7:34 a.m. and the cause of the outage is under investigation.
      • 350 customers – North of Phillips Rd. Power has been out since 5:50 a.m. and the cause of the outage is under investigation.
    • Metchosin/Sooke:

      • 354 customers – North of Woodley Ghyll Dr, West of Derrien Pl, South of Sooke Rd, East of Nagle Rd. Power has been out since 4:59 a.m. and the cause of the outage is under investigation.
    • Metchosin:

      • 236 customers – South of Morland Rd, East of Rocky Point Rd, North of William Head Rd. Power has been out since 1:44 a.m. and the outage was caused by equipment failure.
    • North Saanich:

      • 1,066 customers – West of Neptune Rd, North of Wain Rd, South of Seabreeze Rd, East of Chalet Rd. Power has been out since 11:03 p.m. on Friday night and was caused by a tree that fell down across Hydro wires.
      • 112 customers – East of Tryon Rd, North of Harbour Rd, South of Road A Rd. Power has been out since 5:02 a.m. and the cause of the outage is under investigation.
    • Central Saanich/North Saanich:

      • 1,465 customers – East of Blackglama Pl, North of Twin View Pl. Power has been out since 8:43 a.m. and the outage was caused by the wind storm.
    • Central Saanich/Saanich:

      • 90 customers – West of Oldfield Rd, East of Saanich Rd, North of Old W Saanich Rd, South of Sean Hts. Power has been out since 7:38 a.m. and the cause of the outage is under investigation.
