An afternoon fire on Friday at the Cedar Grove Marina fully engulfed one boat and boathouse, according to witnesses at the scene.

The blaze broke out at approximately 2 p.m., and emergency services including Sidney Fire, North Saanich Fire, and Sidney/North Saanich RCMP attended the site.

Once firefighters arrived, the fire was contained and knocked down quickly. Sources say that one person was transported to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation.

Local Coast Guard units have also been called in to help protect the water from oil and other fluids that may have leaked from the boat.

Victoria Buzz has reached out to the Sidney Fire Department for further details.

More to come.
