Victoria Police are investigating a suspicious fire that was set in Esquimalt Thursday evening.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., Esquimalt Fire was called to the 900-block of Devonshire Road to douse a dumpster fire that was blazing behind a large building.
The flames were quickly put out and firefighters deemed the fire as suspicious.
“Luckily, due to the quick work of Esquimalt Fire, there was no damage to the building,” said VicPD’s Cst. Matthew Rutherford.
The fire department alerted VicPD of the unusual nature of the incident, and an investigation has been started. Police say it is too early to determine whether or not this incident is related to the trio of connected arson cases that plagued Saanich last month near downtown Victoria.
