A second earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 has just struck near the same area as an earlier one off Vancouver Island Monday afternoon, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
This quake comes just over an hour after the initial magnitude 4.6 quake was reported to have taken place at 1:27 pm, 170 kms southwest of Port Hardy.
The second quake struck at 2:44 p.m. about 189 km west of Port Alice. Both quakes had a reported depth of 10 km.
Tsunami warnings have not been issued for both earthquakes and no damage was reported.
