Oceanside RCMP are looking for a 75 to 80-year-old man reported to have been impersonating a police officer in downtown Qualicum Beach last week.

A security guard contacted police after he was approached just after midnight on April 17 by the elderly man who had the word ‘POLICE’ on his shirt.

The suspicious man asked too see the security guard’s license before he quickly left. He said the man was driving a dark-coloured SUV.

He was also reported to have red-and-blue lights on his vehicle.

“Although it was clear to the security guard that the man was not a police officer, this incident is concerning to police and citizens alike,” Cpl. Jesse Foreman said in a release.

“Impersonating a police officer is a Criminal Code offence and using red and blue lights affixed to a non-police vehicle is also an offence under the Motor Vehicle Act.”

Despite extensive patrols, the man was not located and police said there have been no similar calls since.

If you know anything about this incident please call the Oceanside RCMP at (250) 248-6111 or report anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1 (888) 222-8477.
