48-year-old man arrested for stealing unique car parts from UVic Formula Motorsport team

Saanich Police have arrested a 48-year-old man in connection with the theft of unique car parts built by the University of Victoria Formula Motorsport team.

They were also able to recover the car parts that were painstakingly built by the young group over the past two months, only to be stolen on April 24th.

The suspect in question was attempting to sell the parts which, according to the Formula Motorsport team has no resale market as they were built to fit their race car.

The 48-year-old man who is well known to police has been arrested for Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, and is expected to appear in court today.

Meanwhile the stolen car parts have been returned to the university who will be arranging an expedited delivery of the components to the Motorsport team.

The team is currently in Michigan with the car they built to compete in the Formula Society of Automotive Engineers competition.
