Check out the amazing canned food art installation at Hillside Shopping Centre this weekend

If you’ve noticed the large can-made art exhibits at Hillside Shopping Centre, you’re not alone.

The sixth annual ‘Canstruction’ event has returned, letting shoppers get an up close look at impressive creations while also supporting the Mustard Seed Food Bank.

Visitors can check out the free art installations from now until May 13th and can vote on their favourite creation by donating either a non-perishable food item or 5 dollars.

People who donate will be entered into a draw to win a bunch of awesome prizes, including kayaks, boogie boards, whale watching tours, gift certificates, and more.

“This is our sixth annual year and we couldn’t be happier to bring this event back to
Victoria,” said Christopher Mavrikos, founder and executive director of the Dahlia Society, who organize Canstruction.

“Our community has rallied around this event for 5 years now and the results we have
seen are unparalleled. We hope to carry on our success from years past and know that
supporting local food insecurity through The Mustard Seed is a cause our community
can and will stand behind.”

Besides the art on display, Canstruction will also be hosting a ‘Family Can Day’ event on Saturday, which includes a scavenger hunt, face painting, a kid’s zone where kids can build their own structures out of foam shapes, and more.

“Canstruction is the single largest non-perishable food donation we receive,” said Derek
Pace, Interim Executive Director, The Mustard Seed.

“This donation comes at a pivotal time, supporting our food programs through the Summer when donations typically drop but community need rises. We are so grateful to The Dahlia Society and all Canstruction® teams, sponsors and supporters for all of their hard work in making this event such a success!”

This year’s Canstruction theme is ‘Under the Sea’, meaning visitors can expect a lot of nautical and below the surface structures.
