Police have released shocking surveillance footage following a violent robbery at the Howard Johnson Hotel and Suites in Saanich early Thursday morning.

In a release, police said at approximately 4 a.m. this morning, two masked suspects entered the hotel on Elk Lake Drive and promptly jumped over the front counter to access the staff area occupied by one lone employee.

They proceeded to forcefully restrain the employee and, in a video released by Saanich police, appear to have taken him into a back room. The masked men then robbed the hotel registry before exiting the venue, leaving the employee restrained.

Police said the suspects were able to get away with a substantial amount of money.

A hotel guest heard the employee’s calls for help and assisted him at that point.

Saanich Police have released the following surveillance video of the incident in hopes that someone may be able to identify the suspects.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Saanich Police at 250-475-4356.
