When they arrived, they found the suite was already on fire, after which authorities safely removed all occupants from the suite and attempted to extinguish the flames.

Residents of surrounding units were also evacuated as the fire quickly spread, and Victoria Fire was called in to fight the flames.

According to police, the building has sustained extensive damage and the majority of residents have been relocated to alternate accommodations.

Two Victoria Police officers were transported to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation in the aftermath of the incident.

“Officers with VicPDs Major Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Section attended and are continuing their investigation as it is in the early stages,” reads a statement from VicPD.

“There is no information to indicate this fire is related to any other fires in the Victoria area, including the old Plaza Hotel.”

Authorities are in the early stages of their investigation and are working to determine the source of the fire and how it was set.

Police are currently seeking witnesses and anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact them at 250-995-7654.
