An e-bike that was stolen from a Colwood home was recovered in less than 24 hours from a property in View Royal earlier this week.

On Thursday, a Colwood resident told West Shore RCMP that their 2015 Kgeez Rufus e-bike was stolen sometime during the night from their property just off of the Island Highway.

Police then received photos of the bike and began to search for the stolen vehicle.

Within a few hours, officers located the e-bike at a residence in View Royal and set up surveillance.

During the stakeout, investigators saw a man emerge from the residence and drive off on the e-bike. The officers then apprehended the man and arrested him for possession of stolen property.

“The owner realized their e-bike was stolen at 7o’clock in the morning but didn’t report it until 4:00pm on May 16th,” said Cst. Nancy Saggar of the West Shore RCMP in a release.

“By 7 o’clock in the evening on the same day, the West Shore Bike Patrol Unit recovered the e-bike and it was brought back to the owner. Pretty short turn around for the recovery of an e-bike that was worth almost $3000. The owner was happy to have their property back.”

The suspect has since been released on a Promise to Appear in Court.
