Are you looking for some good vibes and cool, Canadian art this weekend?

The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria is kicking off their summer with contemporary art, including three new exhibitions and it just happens to be admission by donation day tomorrow, June 8th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.!

Victoria-based artist, Megan Dickie, unapologetically pokes fun at the status quo and gendered expectations in her installation aptly named Blue Skies. The performance of power in her video art continues with glittering, hypnotic sculptures that claim the gallery space.

As women artists have been historically under-represented in the arts, guest curator Margaret August represents her work alongside an inter-generational group of iconic women in Matriarchs: Prints by First Nations Women.

Celebrated Canadian duo Daniel Young and Christian Giroux merge their sculpture practice with film installation using high-tech design and manufacturing technologies such as a 3D printer in Film Path, Camera Path, with Under-titles

When it first opened in 1951, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria exhibited art in the historic 1889 mansion that is now adjacent to its seven modern galleries. Now with almost 20,000 works of art, the Art Gallery has the largest public collection in BC and is a vibrant and active part of Victoria’s artist community.

  • When: Saturday, June 8th – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
