Nanaimo RCMP are reminding the public to avoid drinking and driving any type of vehicle after an intoxicated Nanaimo rode his dirt bike off of a 30 ft cliff on Friday.

Shortly after 1 a.m., Nanaimo RCMP responded to reports of a man falling from a 30 foot height in the rocky bluffs area near the intersection of Nanaimo Parkway and Fifth Street.
When officers arrived, they found a 35-year-old driver at the bottom of the cliffs. Police say that he was conscious and suffering from multiple non-life threatening injuries.

He was then transported to the hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and released later that night.

According to Nanaimo RCMP, the driver and a friend had been drinking before they mounted their bikes and as they were travelling, the driver either lost control or turned his vehicle the wrong way, launching him over the cliff.

“The 35-year-old Nanaimo man told officers he and a buddy were having some liquid refreshments and unwisely decided to take their bikes out for a rip,” said Cst. Gary O’Brien in a release.

“The next day, the male woke up and after taking some much needed ibuprofen, the only thing on his agenda was to buy a lotto ticket as he was feeling rather lucky.”
