Are you ready for a day full of dancing and singing, children’s activities, exhibits displaying traditional Filipino culture, and, of course tons of delicious Filipino food?

Happening this weekend on Saturday, June 15th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Victoria’s own Centenntial square, the Phillipine Bayanihan Community Centre is bringing back the Mabuhay festival for its second year in a row – and best of all, it’s entirely free to attend!

On top of this, they’re giving away food vouchers to three lucky winners – so you can skip the lineup and enjoy some of the incredible eats this event has to offer.

In Tagalog, Mabuhay means welcome – and that’s what this festival is about! Anyone and everyone is welcome to join them for a day of Filipino cultural celebration in honour of the Philippine Independence Day and the fact that June is the Filipino Heritage Month in Canada.

Aside from the abundance of traditional Filipino vendors, Mabuhay is proud to offer family-friendly activities such Pantintero, Sipa, Palayok, Tumbang Preso, Rice Sack Races, Cookie Races, Jump Rope, and more.

If it’s delicious Filipino eats you’re after, you’re in luck! On top of some classic dishes like Halo halo, Adobo, and Pancit you can also feast on Pinakbet, vegetarian and meat spring rolls, Dinuguan, Siomai, Okoy, Palabok, Guinataan bilobilo, Igado, Sinigang baboy, Mongo, Okoy, Sio pao, and the many more that are available to purchase at the festival.

You can also take in some beautiful entertainment in the form of traditional Filipino dance – watch as dancers perform dances such as La Jota Moncadena, Pasikot sa Baso, Binasuan, Tiklos, Tinikling, Kuratong, Kapag-apirapir (fan dance), Kinakulangan (scarf dance), Sayaw sa Cuyo, PayPay de Manila, Dayang Dayang and even Singkil – the dance that won an award at the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival!
