One person dead after drowning at Long Beach in Tofino on Saturday

One person has died after drowning at a beach in Tofino this past weekend.

BC RCMP have confirmed that the death took place at Long Beach prior to 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 7th.

At the time of the incident, Tofino RCMP were called by park wardens and joined BC Ambulance paramedics at the scene.

According to Cpl. Chris Manseau, media spokesperson with the BC RCMP, the death circumstances are not considered suspicious.

Manseau added that the investigation has now been handed over to Tofino RCMP, and that the BC Coroners Service is also now investigating.

No further details have been made available at this time.
