RCMP issued an Amber Alert earlier Monday for a missing two-year-old girl in southwestern Alberta after her father was found deceased in the home where the girl was abducted from.
Investigators have confirmed the death is suspicious and are now investigating this as a homicide.
Crowsnest RCMP believe Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette, 2, was taken from the residence in Blairmore, Alberta around 3:30 a.m. Monday.
An Amber Alert was issued in Alberta Monday afternoon for Dunbar-Blanchette and later extended to B.C., Saskatchewan, and south of the border in Montana. It remains in effect.
Police were called to a residence just after 11:15 a.m. in the town of Blairmore, by a family member who had just discovered a deceased male in the home. The deceased was later identified as 27-year-old, Terry Blanchette. He is the biological father of Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette.
The suspect fled west in a newer model white van with a large rear antenna, with a flag attached. Hailey is described as white, with light brown, straight hair with bangs, and brown eyes.
RCMP Supt. Tony Hamori confirmed to reporters Monday evening that Blanchette’s death is being treated as a homicide.
“We have spoken to Hailey’s mother and can certainly confirm that Hailey is not with her,” said Hamori.
Police are asking the public to not approach the suspect if spotted. Call 911 immediately or contact the Crowsnest Pass RCMP 403-562-2866 if you have any information.
Blairmore is south of Calgary in the Crowsnest Pass near the B.C. boundary.
