

An early morning electrical fire on the James Island Express forced the crew to deploy the on-board fire extinguisher system.
They were able to extinguish the fire then get the barge to the boat ramp at Island View Beach, where Central Saanich Fire department were awaiting to assist.
Central Saanich Fire Department Chief Ron French said the fire was under control by the time it reached the shores. Fire crew assisted with mooring the boat and checking over the engine compartment to ensure of no additional flare.
The boat is being moored at Island View until the next high tide so a tug boat can tow it back to James Island.
The barge is used to transport material to and from the island.
