Central Saanich Fire Department Chief Ron French said the fire was under control by the time it reached the shores. Fire crew assisted with mooring the boat and checking over the engine compartment to ensure of no additional flare.

The boat is being moored at Island View until the next high tide so a tug boat can tow it back to James Island.
