VicPD Investigators are asking the public to be on the lookout for a large, and seemingly difficult to take, truck-sized garbage compactor stolen from a local business.

Officers were called to a recycling business in the 500-block of Bay Street on Tuesday, September 15th, for a report of a break-and-enter and theft. When investigators arrived they discovered that a large garbage compactor had been stolen from the back of a flatbed truck. The ten foot by ten foot by fourteen foot bright blue steel garbage compactor itself would have required extensive knowledge to remove from the truck and a second, large truck to transport it. Additionally, the compactor was believed to contain nearly one and a half tonnes of compostable material. The compactor is valued at approximately $75,000.

There was no sign of forced entry into the property and the investigation points to the theft being committed in the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 15th. A photograph of the compactor unit is attached below.

If you have any information about this theft, or have seen this garbage compactor, please call our non-emergency line at (250) 995-7654. To report anonymously, please call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
