Fall for Wildlife Dinner Auction – helping our injured wildlife

Share

For BC SPCA Wild ARC October typically means many injured raptors – particularly owls – needing a helping hand.

As the days get shorter, people tend to head to work and return home in the dark. Nocturnal animals like owls are also active at these times, often hunting near roadsides for small rodents that make up their diet.

These raptors are therefore at higher risk from vehicle collisions – and Wild ARC sees a dramatic rise in the number of owls admitted with injuries from being hit by cars at this time of year.

A Great Horned Owl arrived last month in critical condition, weak and unable to stand. Thanks to several weeks of care from Wild ARC, the owl is now able to perch upright and eat on his own.

Wild ARC’s annual Fall for Wildlife Dinner Auction is a wonderful way to help support the valuable activities of this organization. Taking place on November 14, it offers an enticing evening of delicious food and a live and silent auction.

“We are eagerly anticipating this event,” says organizer Sharon Burkmar. “The combination of a great meal and wonderful supporters, paired with a wide variety of items to bid on, makes this an evening not to be missed.”

As a special thanks for early birds, those purchasing tickets by November 1 will be entered into a draw to win a night’s stay and breakfast for two at the event venue – the Four Points by Victoria Sheraton Gateway!
