A major face-lift could be coming soon near the intersection of Borden and McKenzie.

The upgrade will include protected bike lanes on Borden Street from the McKenzie Intersection to Cedar Hill Cross Road to the Lochside trail connection, relocation of sidewalks, and re-configuration of the Borden/Cedar Hill Cross Road to improve safety.

The protected bike lanes will be 4 meters wide and bi-directional protected, similar to the one on Dunsmuir Street in Vancouver.

If you are interested in learning more about the proposed cycle track extension, staff from the District of Saanich will be be available on-site, October 22nd and 24th.

District engineering will also be at the Borden Street and McKenzie Avenue location to answer any questions and take feedback. A large poster board of the design will be on display.

“This is a great opportunity for people to view the cycle track conceptual design and provide feedback on the suggested improvements to biking, walking and driving in the corridor before the design is finalized,” says Harley Machielse, Director of Engineering.

“We want to make sure we are meeting the needs of citizens using this busy route by building a cycle track that is a safe and enjoyable asset to our community.”
