Plastic Bag Princess and Mr. Floatie get married

Share

On Wednesday evening, before a crowd of media and curious onlookers, Mr. Floatie and Penelope “The Plastic Bag Princess” were united in marriage. The ceremony took place at Clover Point near Victoria’s sewage outfall location. The bride wore a one-of-a-kind gown of 400 plastic bags, the average number she says a person throws away each year.

Mr. Floatie, the creation of Esquimalt resident and pro-treatment advocate James Skwarok, donned his distinctive attire, as he has for years, raising awareness of the raw sewage that is pumped into Victoria’s waters.

Rumours had been circulating for months that the couple had “fallen in love” bonding over their common knowledge that they were things people didn’t want in the ocean.

They have now joined forces and there is an online petition to ban single-use plastic bags in Victoria.
