Update: Saanich Police have located the boys they believe left their wallet behind at Tillicum Centre, thanks to social media. In the original release, police referred to the wallet as unique and were hoping to reunite the wallet with its owner using social media.

The wallet was turned into staff at the mall and security from the mall were able to sift through video surveillance to determine who left the wallet behind

Original: Saanich Police are looking for assistance from the public to identify the owner of a wallet that was found at Tillicum Mall in the days leading up to the start of the school year.

“The wallet itself is very unique in description ” Sgt. Steve Eassie said.

“Our investigators have determined that the wallet was likely left behind, in error, by one of two youths that were seen on video surveillance”.

On September 7, 2015, another mall patron observed the wallet, opened the wallet, and observed that there was a sum of cash inside. The finder of the wallet turned it over to mall security, who in turn, contacted police.

“It is impressive that the person that located the wallet did the right thing and turned it in” Sgt. Eassie said. “It may have been obvious to the finder that the wallet likely belonged to a young person, who would more than likely be missing the substantial sum of cash”.

Mall security were successful in reviewing video surveillance in the mall and observing two male youths that were believed to be in possession of the wallet.

“We have not had any reports of the loss of the wallet, and are hopeful that we can identify the youths and have the wallet returned”

Anyone that may recognize either of the youths in the photo are asked to contact the Saanich Police Department at 250-475-4321. The wallet is being held in safe keeping until such time that the owner of the wallet can be identified. A detailed description of the wallet and its contents will be required for anyone claiming ownership.
