School enrollments up in 2015

According to CFAX news, there are more students in Greater Victoria public schools this year over last. The official student population this year is 18,785 – up 125 students over last year, mostly in lower grades. Elementary school enrollment is up by almost 200 from last year, and middle school enrollment has risen by just over 100. The hope is that this growth bulge will continue through the years to come. Superintendent of Schools Piet Langstraat calls it good news, after years of declining enrollment that led to what he calls some “difficult” decisions to close schools.
